Firefighters Rescue Driver Trapped In Wrecked Vehicle: FD

First responders rescued a driver trapped inside a vehicle after two vehicles collided Monday, according to Sayville Fire Department.

SAYVILLE, NY — First responders rescued a driver trapped inside a wrecked vehicle after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Lakeland Avenue and Sunrise Highway Service Road Monday night, the West Sayville Fire Department told Patch.

According to Suffolk County police, one driver was headed eastbound on the Service Road, while one was driving northbound on Lakeland. Each car was occupied by a male driver, police said.

One went to South Shore University Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

West Sayville Fire Department Chief Brian D’Onofrio told Patch that Sayville's Community Ambulance Company alerted his crew of the crash shortly after 10 p.m.

D’Onofrio was first on the scene and found one of the drivers trapped in his vehicle.

When SCPD Emergency Services arrived they began the extrication with help from WSFD personnel, according to D’Onofrio.

"Teamwork between West Sayville Fire Department, Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services and Community Ambulance Company helped make a successful outcome," D'Onfrio said.
