SAYVILLE, NY — A local non-profit is offering opportunities for Long Island residents to lead their own service projects.

The Inspire Together Project, a part of charity Kids Run Long Island, is providing micro-grants of $500 each for a youth-led service project starting this month. Kids, teens, educators, club and scout leaders, youth sports teams, and youth development professionals are encouraged to apply.

“The youth of Long Island want to get involved in local issues in a meaningful way.” said Executive Director Kiersten Bartolotta. “That is why our Inspire Together micro-grant program is so empowering. It allows Long Island kids to take action, develop their leadership skills, and truly make a difference in the communities where they live.”

The service projects must be led by youth or teens, ages 5 to 19 with a supervising adult, a release said. Funds for these projects are provided by businesses on Long Island who want to give back to our youth and local neighborhoods.

Projects should promote the values of Inspire Together, supporting equity, compassion, and service for the community to make Long Island a better place for all.

The name of this project, Inspire Together comes from the idea that businesses, youth, and community can work together to make a difference, a release said. This project also gives local businesses an opportunity to support Long Island youth and: see the good work that comes from that support".

Kids Run Long Island has supported the healthy development of Long Island youth since 2015. Based in the areas of Sayville, Blue Point Bayport and Patchogue Medford it assists youth in developing a strong understanding about equity, leadership skills and giving back to the local community.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Bartolotta told Patch that the organization has shifted its focus to raising money for kids on Long Island to develop leadership skills.
