State Senator, elected in 2020.

Family

My husband, Jim, and I are proud parents of three.

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

My son is involved in law enforcement; my husband is retired law enforcement.

Age

Previous public office, appointive or elective

Prior to my election to the Senate, I served three terms as the elected Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Islip.

Why are you seeking this office?

I am seeking reelection to the Senate to continue to be a champion for Long Island, to preserve our way of life, fight for lower taxes and make our state more affordable to live—not leave—here. In addition, I want to continue to fight to restore public safety as a top priority, support our police and make our communities by repealing the disastrous, recently enacted “reforms” that have fueled a dangerous crime wave across our state.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I have experience, in my first term in the Senate and as a local government official, to be able to deliver real results, like lower taxes and safer communities that New Yorkers need and want.

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Besides issues relating to affordability and safer communities, I want to work with local leaders across LI’s South Shore to preserve our quality of life, protect our natural resources and unmatched beauty of our shoreline communities, support good quality schools and support small businesses who are struggling to recover from government imposed shutdowns and regulations imposed during the pandemic.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Would you seek to overturn New York's abortion law protecting medical choices for women 7+ months pregnant?

In my first term, I have shown I can be an effective advocate for families and individuals facing unprecedented challenges created by a global pandemic and unprecedented inflation. I was a leader in the fight to suspend the state’s gas tax to provide relief at the pump, was first to call for the return of the STAR rebate checks and urged tax relief for middle class families that became law. I have been outspoken in my support for law enforcement and a common sense return to public safety and will continue to speak out to protect New Yorkers.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

The best advice I have ever received and shared with others is to urge everyone to give 100 percent. In public service, we are called on to dedicate ourselves to helping improve the lives of others, make our communities prosper and create better opportunities for everyone. Whether it’s helping a constituent with a problem or urging sweeping changes, such as to economic or justice policies, I always strive to do my very best to deliver results for those I represent.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I was inspired to run for the Senate because I want to help create a future where my children can live on Long Island and someday raise their own families here. Far too many New Yorkers have been driven from our state by the high cost of living and dwindling opportunities that are the result of misguided government policies. I will continue to work to create a government that supports individuals in reaching their dreams so that we can always be a community that people are proud of.
