New Bubble Tea Cafe, Bakery Opens In Bayport

BAYPORT, NY — A new bubble tea store has opened its doors in Bayport.

The Whale Tea Bakery, located at 771 Montauk Hwy, is a bakery and bubble tea café that opened is soft launch on Sunday.

Allen Zhang, co-owner of the store, told Patch that when looking to expand the chain of nine stores, he thought Bayport was a perfect location.

"Around Bayport, there's no bubble tea at all," he said. "Now they (Customers) don't have to travel far away to Queens or Stony Brook to get bubble tea."

While most cafés use powder, Zhang said that The Whale Tea uses tea leave, to make their drinks and to enhance its flavor.

The chain currently operates seven stores in Connecticut, one in White Plains, and one in Melville, according to its website. But the Bayport location is the first café to offer baked goods in addition to bubble tea.

"We're trying to make some nice, high quality birthday cakes," he said.

The store will be hosting its hard launch on Sept. 15. But before then, the bakery has a buy two drinks get a free cake offer, available until Sept. 11.

The Whale Tea also plans to open locations soon in Huntington, Syosset, and Manhasset.
