Officer, Good Samaritans Team Up To Save Injured Swan

The injured swan was found waddling on Sunrise Highway and was saved thanks to the efforts of the group.

OAKDALE, NY — A Suffolk police officer, with help from some good samaritans, helped to rescue an injured swan found on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale last week.

Highway patrol officer Matthew Cody responded to the eastbound portion of the highway to save the swan.

According to police, the swan was no easy patient. However eventually Cody and the good samaritans were able to contain the swan in the back of his police car.

He was then able to transport the swan to Sweet Briar Nature Center in Smithtown where it will be nursed back to health.
