SAYVILLE, NY — A beloved summer event is set return in Sayville.

The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce Summerfest is set to take place Saturday Aug. 4 through Aug. 6, at Gillette Park on Collins Avenue.

Eileen Tyznar, the chamber president, said the festival will feature food, a car show, rides, live entertainment, a beer and wine tent, vendors, and more.

"I am so looking so forward to seeing families back together again, year after year," said Tyznar. "It's the highlight of the Greater Sayville Chamber events, and we're really excited for it to be just as good if not better this year."

The event, which originated in 1979, will feature live entertainment each day in multiple locations. Music groups range from rock bands, to do-wop groups. While many musicians are adults, Sayville's youth talents are spotlighted, Tyznar said.

"The kids' talent in this town is just mind-blowing," she said. "We started spreading them around the whole event because we feel we have so much talent from our own students here in Sayville."

Like last year, each day of the festival will hold a unique event. On Saturday, Sayville stores will have their own tables, to showcase their businesses.

"It's really a highlight, because people love seeing our own businesses," said Tyznar.

The John Cohalan 4 Mile Run will also take place on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Runners will race through the heart of Sayville's downtown, and a $100 Cash prize will be awarded to the top male and female finisher.

Age group awards will also be presented to the top three finishers in five-year age groups ranging from 10 and under to 85+.

A free kids run run will take place at 8:45 a.m.

On Sunday, the chamber will host its annual car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 200 cars are expected to participate, and first and second prizes will be given out.

A DJ will also play oldies music at Sparrow Park during the show.

Tyznar told Patch that the festival will also have "great" rides, like bumper cars.

The beer and wine tent, located at the Commonground on Gillette Ave will host a variety of Blue Point Beer and wine including ice cold Wolfer Estates Rose on tap.

This is the second year in a row the chamber is co-sponsoring the tent with Sayville Athletic Club.

Tyznar shared that festival goers can expect a bunch of new food vendors, such as: Bubbles &. Bowls (acai bowls), All American Wontons, The Shrimp Shack, Tommy Pickles and The Oyster Lover Trick (raw bar).

For the little ones, there will be a closed in small play area with games for adults and kids alike donated by the Sayville Library.

Tyznar told Patch she, her co-chair Chris Olsen, and the chamber begin planning the event in January.

"It take months and months and dozens and dozens of people to pull off this event," she said. "It's the highlight of the summer."
