SAYVILLE, NY — Sayville Union Free School District officials say they are projecting layoffs and larger class sizes due to a loss of at least $3.4 million in the budget, News 12 reported.

Eighteen teachers are set to retire in 2024 and many of those positions might not be filled, but parents say that if the proposed layoffs take place, it will make things harder on the teachers who stay, according to the outlet.

The school district says student programs have been saved in their proposed budgets, and they will be presented at the board's next meeting, the outlet reported.
