Sayville's Longstanding Restaurant Cricket's Closes Its Doors

The eatery was a staple on Main St. for decades and celebrated its final night with music and applause.

SAYVILLE, NY —Cricket's, a Sayville restaurants that's been a staple on Main St. for years, closed its doors for the last time on Saturday.

The restaurant, at 98 Main St., played the theme song from the 1980s television show Cheers on the final night, and uploaded the video to Facebook with the caption "I'm not crying, you're crying."

Sayville residents posted well wishes to owner Peter Moreno on his retirement and lamented that the eatery would no longer be a go-to in downtown Sayville.

The restaurant had earlier posted announcements of reduced hours, claiming they were understaffed.
