SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Middle Island man struck an officer with his vehicle in Bohemia, and then got into a gunfight with officers during a chase on Thursday night, Suffolk police said.

A ghost gun was found in Scanlon's vehicle, police said.

Scanlon, 33, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and assault.

He will be arraigned at a later date.

Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association President Lou Civello said, "We are thankful that the officers are okay, and I think this just highlights the dangers that they face every single day."
