SCARSDALE, NY — A Scarsdale teenager is being honored by his hometown for his heroic actions during a summer getaway.

Luca Soares, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Scarsdale Middle School, was with the Scarsdale Teen Travel Camp at SplashDown Beach Water Park in Fishkill on July 12, when circumstances called on him to take decisive action at a moment's notice.

Soares noticed a young child pulled underwater by a wave in the water park’s Monster Wave Pool. Acting without hesitation, he rescued the child, carried him to safety and found the child's mother.
