Beloved Southampton Educator Earns 'PE Teacher Of Year' Award

SOUTHAMPTON, NY —A beloved Southampton educator has been honored for his efforts.

Tim Schreck, an educator with the Southampton School District, was named High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by Suffolk Zone during the Suffolk Zone Professional Awards Dinner on Jan. 18, the district said.

Schreck earned the award following a nomination by the district’s athletic director, Darren Phillips.

"It is so hard to quantify what Tim has brought to our physical education program," said Phillips. "He genuinely cares about every student and takes time to personally get to know them."

Schreck has taught at Southampton’s intermediate and high schools during his 20-year tenure in the district. During that time, he introduced new programs to the physical education program, including archery, ballroom dancing, pickleball, Project Adventure, self defense and handsfree CPR, the district said.

He coached football and is currently the boys' golf coach, leading his team to numerous league titles. He also serves as the district’s driver education teacher and as an adviser for the high school’s student council.

"He is definitely one of the favorite teachers among students, and the passion and enthusiasm he brings every day is contagious to our students and staff," said Phillips.
