Don't Let Mosquitos Be the Buzz of Your Party

Outdoor parties are better without the presence of mosquitos! We can help make sure your guests don't have to deal with pesky insects

East End Tick & Mosquito Control offers party sprays designed to rid East Enders of irritating mosquitoes and prevent potential mosquito-born illnesses during backyard BBQ season.

The Department of Health announced that a mosquito pool tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Staten Island, NY in June of this year. A total of 33 New Yorkers were diagnosed with the virus in 2013 and 589 mosquito pools tested positive for the virus. According to the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, the U.S. malaria count hit a 40-year high in 2011. New York has the highest number of reported malaria cases with a staggering 238 cases.

The summer season on the East End of Long Island calls for time spent outdoors, backyard BBQs and evening pool parties, but residents must also be aware protect themselves. I recommend party sprays to my clients because they are both effective and environmentally friendly. We’ve found that the most effective product to get rid of mosquitos is garlic oil. When sprayed on your property, the garlic oil disappears in 15 to 30 minutes and so do the mosquitoes. It is not the garlic scent that keeps the mosquitoes away, it is the 33 sulfur compounds in the garlic that becomes systemic in your yard plants. The application can last anywhere from a few days to a whole month depending on the weather and your location in relation to mosquito breeding grounds.

3. Keep swimming pools cleaned and chlorinated, even when not in use.

4. Walk around your property after a rain and look for areas in the landscape that are not draining well.

5. Ornamental ponds should be aerated to keep water moving and discourage mosquitoes from laying eggs.

6. Dump anything that holds water twice per week if it has rained such as birdbaths, non-chlorinated wading pools, garbage can lids, pottery, and flowerpot saucers. Don’t leave water in pet bowls for more than two days.

7. Keep the property clean of items that can hold water including discarded aluminum cans and tires. 8. Dispose of used tired, tin cans and plastic containers
