Driver Airlifted After Flanders Crash: Police

The van hit a transformer pole and a person was trapped inside, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A person was trapped inside a van after it crashed into a transformer pole in Flanders Friday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 11:23 a.m., a Ford Econoline van hit the pole. The Flanders Fire Department responded to extricate the driver from the vehicle after the single-vehicle crash; Flanders Ambulance also responded to render aid, police said.

Suffolk County Police Aviation flew the driver to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.

Flanders Road was closed southbound at Long Neck Boulevard and Pleasure Drive and
northbound at Red Creek after the crash, police said.
