Edie Carey at Sticks & Stones Comedy Club

Singer Songwriter Edie Carey Who Will Perform At The Sticks & Stones Comedy Club, Wednesday Oct. 18th

Abby Russell founder of “The Sticks and Stones Comedy Club,” at the SCC in Southampton announced some very exciting talent is coming to the stage there this month and beyond. Introducing something totally new at Sticks and Stones, Singer songwriter Edie Carey will be giving an all-ages concert on Wednesday, Oct. 18th. This will be a first ever at the club. To hear Edie Carey sing for the first time can only be equated to hearing something instantly memorable and very special. Her voice reaches down into one’s soul and flickers some pure light exactly where it’s needed.

This show will be unique opportunity to watch up close and “live,” the talent of Edie Carey as this will be her first appearance in the Hamptons. Although she has played at the Newport Folk Festival as well as huge festivals in places like Telluride, Colorado she is excited about her Southampton show. She lives with her family in Colorado Springs Colorado and is a mom to Luca and Emmy.

In an interview Edie Carey said although a singer from an early age she really didn’t start the songwriting, guitar playing until she was a student at Barnard College in NYC where she majored in Italian. While studying Italian for a year in Bologna, Italy, Edie said she, “Busked for the Italians and learned about performing. No one could really understand the words of my songs so I felt confident. The Italians were shy, … but generous.”

About who she is as a performing artist, Ms. Carey said, “I am absolutely not a commercial artist. I was very influenced by Shawn Colvin even before I started playing guitar. I went from buying her record as a fifteen-year-old toopening up for her years later. That was one of the biggest moments of my career.”

Edie Carey has a discography that includes ten albums ranging from her first, “The Falling Places,” released in 1998 to her 2022 release titled, “The Veil.” The crafting of her songs is superb. Some songs are as soft and delicate as if she is singing only to you at a campfire or in front of a fireplace during a snowstorm. Others provoke thoughts of love, loyalty and of apprehension of the struggles true love blankets us all with. When she reaches for certain notes she achieves a purity of sweet wind chimes sounds with early morning birds joyfully joining in.

She said she is really excited to come back to New York where she did live for ten years and play in Southampton and see a lot of old friends. “So many of my friends that I lived in Brooklyn with and Manhattan with now live out in that area (the east end.) So, it’s going to be so much fun to come back all these years later.” Obviously she has a trusted true loyal following of folks who know every note of every song. If you give her tunes a true listening you may become one too.

Ms. Carey also said, “What’s fun about live shows is I get to tell some stories and weave the songs together. I try to make the show as engaging as possible…When people already know the songs, then I can tell a little bit of a story that might show a whole other side of the song.”

Her first guitar was an Alvarez that shebought at a little music store in her home town of Dedham, Massachusetts. She recently gifted that guitar to her niece and nephew. On Wednesday, Oct. 18th, she will be standing on the stage at Southampton Cultural Center with her slender 1997 Martin 00016 that creates “so much beautiful rich dark sound coming out of it.”

In Other Sticks and Stones Comedy Club news; comedian Tony Deyo will be headlining and Michael Regilio will be featuring on Friday, October 20th; Sticks and Stones All-Star Comedy on October 26, November 3, 4, 17 and December 1; and musician Kim Kalesti (recently featured in Humans of New York) will be offering a soulful holiday concert on Saturday, December 2nd.
