Man, 83, Crashes Into Semi-Trailer: Police

The 83-year-old was pulling out onto the road and collided with a semi-trailer, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man, 83, collided with a semi-trailer on County Road 39 in Southampton Monday afternoon, police said.

According to Southampton Police, the crash took place at 2:33 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 39 and Greenfield Road. Brent Newsom, 83, of Southampton, who was driving a 2017 Kia sedan, pulled out from the north side of County Road 39 to head east and collided with a 1998 semi-trailer in the left lane driven by Ronald Jernick, 45, of Shelter Island, police said.

Newsom was transported by Southampton Ambulance to a Suffolk County medevac for precautionary measures; the Southampton Fire Department assisted with traffic, police said.
