Opinion: “Sammy & Me”Opens to a Standing Ovation at Bay Street Theater

This is a must see thought provoking show. It's importance is multi-dimensional.

Opening night of Bay Street Theater’s presentation of “Sammy & Me,” was a night to remember. The show as part of the 2023 Mainstage Season opened with an enthusiastic standing ovation for the shows star, Eric Jordon Young . “Sammy & Me” will run to August 20th.

I recommend you see this show because the show’s star, Eric Jordon Young is a juggernaut of obvious talent. His intensity had the audience in the palms of his hands. Mr. Young shined on the stage changing characters sometimes in mid-sentence. Kudos to his award-winning director and collaborator in creating the show, Wendy Dann.

There should be no doubt that “Sammy & Me” is an extremely powerful play with music. It will entertain you while enlightening you on the shifting sands of social conscience in our nation and our world. You will feel the pain of the struggle too many people of color still endure to this day. These two artists, Wendy Dann and Eric Jordan Young presented a piercing soulful exploratory dissection of the talented Sammy Davis Jr. The very weight of this show worked wonders on the audience. This show is spellbinding. “Sammy and Me,” while having the mechanics of a play successfully adds the gift of Sammy Davis Jr.’s music too. The audience stood as one and applauded the opening night performance. Awarding Mr. Eric Jordon Young with a night of triumph he as well as all those at the opening night will fondly remember.
