FLANDERS, NY — Police have identified the man who died in a single-car crash in Flanders Tuesday as Walter Joel Garcia, 24, of Calverton.
According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 5:43 p.m. between Sunrise Highway and the County Road 31 traffic circle.
A vehicle traveling north on County Road 104 crashed into a tree, police said.

Both the driver and the passenger were transported to an area hospital for further treatment; the
passenger later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

During the crash investigation, the road was closed between the traffic circle and Pleasure Drive
until 8:12 p.m., police said. Southampton Town Police detectives are currently investigating the crash.
