Sag Harbor Elementary School Students Start Planting Project

Students started to plant leafy greens, zucchini, radishes and arugula at the gardens in the school.

With spring in the air, the gardens at Sag Harbor Elementary School are already starting to blossom with healthy foods and flowers as student planting projects get underway.

Students from Kindergarten to grade 5 have been busy planting leafy greens, zucchini, radishes and arugula in several raised garden beds at the school.

The students grew all of the seedlings from seeds in the school’s greenhouse and have begun the process of transplanting them.

The first garden was created 15 years ago.

The gardens, which features several ecosystems, including sand dunes, a meadow, an edge of the woods and raised garden beds, provides an opportunity for the students to learn about good foods and ecosystems through an interdisciplinary approach.
