SOUTHAMPTON, NY — One of the generation's most beloved classics will soon debut in Southampton: A staged reading of Tennessee Williams’s "The Glass Menagerie," produced by Center Stage at the Southampton Arts Center, will open January 27 for a one weekend run at the Southampton Arts Center, located at 25 Jobs Lane.

Performances will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, January 28 at 2 p.m.

"The Glass Menagerie", SAC said, is "a well-known and loved literary classic" . . ."a memory play with strong autobiographical elements providing a multifaceted look at a dysfunctional family in the late 1930s. It delves into familial obligations, human frailty and the misplaced hopes and dreams for its characters."

The play features characters "based on its author, his histrionic mother, and his mentally fragile sister. In writing the play, Williams drew on an earlier short story, as well as a screenplay he had written under the title of 'The Gentleman Caller,'" the SAC said.

Williams has long been lauded as one of America's most highly regarded playwrights.

Guests can complete the afternoon or evening with dinner, the SAC said, with 15 percent off at the Southampton Publik House or a $25 brunch on Sunday, January 28 at Fellingham’s. Proof of ticket purchase required. Reservations must be made at your restaurant of choice. Tickets cost $15 to $20 and can be purchased here.
