Winter Storm Warning Issued For East End, Snow Projections Rise Again

"Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous," the National Weather Service says.

The National Weather Service has now issued a winter storm warning for the East End as a significant winter storm takes aim at the region Saturday.

The winter storm warning will be in effect from 7 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday.

Numerous forecast models "all point toward a significant snowfall event across eastern LI," the NWS says. Most of the East End should see 4-8 inches of snow on Saturday, but there is the potential for up to 10 inches.

There is about a 35 percent chance of more than 6 inches, according to NWS snowfall projection maps.

Snow will develop Saturday morning and continue into the evening.

According to the NWS, a winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
