Opportunities Of The Week: Garden Club, Food Pantry, Carpenters

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Bilingual Food Pantry Volunteers
Peekskill Community Action Partnership (CAP) is seeking volunteers who speak both English and Spanish to assist with its food pantry, including registration and data entry, retrieving food deliveries, sorting food and other pantry items, stocking shelves, distributing food, and more. Volunteers must be 18+ but those 16+ can sign up as part of an adult volunteer's team.
Date: 8/19-8/20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 8/21 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Garden Club
Join Teatown Lake Reservation for its weekly volunteer meet-up focused on ecological stewardship. Garden Club volunteer tasks include invasive species removal, native plant propagation, and general maintenance of the gardens. Volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty, closed-toe shoes, bug spray and sun protection, and bring their own reusable water bottles.

Painters and Carpenters
Adults with experience in painting, carpentry, or interior design are needed to help Wartburg Adult Care Community revamp its Meadow Assisted Living Facility. Hours are flexible and based on the volunteers' availability. Volunteers with painting experience will help touch up walls and give hallways and doors a fresh coat of paint, while those with carpentry and interior design skills will assist with repairing dents and natural wear and tear.
