1 Out Of Every 372 UWS Residents Has Died From Coronavirus

Looking at data for the Upper West Side's three ZIP codes, one out of every 15 residents has been diagnosed with the virus.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — One out of every 372 residents on the Upper West Side has died from the coronavirus, according to data from the city.

Of the 211,813 people that live within the 10023, 10024 and 10025 ZIP codes on the UWS, the city says 569 neighbors have passed away from coronavirus.

In terms of caseload, one out of every 15 locals has been diagnosed with the coronavirus since the pandemic began in 2020.

10025: Upper West Side/Manhattan Valley

  • Population: 91,619
  • Cases: 6,693 — One out of every 13 residents
  • Deaths: 347 — One out of every 264 residents
  • Vaccinated: 66,121 vaccinated, 61,925 fully vaccinated
  • Case Rate: 7,305 per 100,000 (Lower than Manhattan's case rate of 8,878 and lower than NYC's case rate of 11,947)
  • Death Rate: 378 per 100,000 (Higher than Manhattan's death rate of 279, but lower than NYC's death rate of 403.)
  • Vaccination Rate: 72.17 percent (Lower than Manhattan's vaccination rate of 73.34 percent, but higher than NYC's vaccination rate of 61.83 percent.)

10024: Upper West Side

  • Population: 58,412
  • Cases: 3,535 — One out of every 16 residents
  • Deaths: 121 — One out of every 482 residents
  • Vaccinated: 44,292 vaccinated, 41,798 fully vaccinated
  • Case Rate: 6,051 per 100,000 (Lower than Manhattan's case rate of 8,878 and lower than NYC's case rate of 11,947)
  • Death Rate: 207 per 100,000 (Lower than Manhattan's death rate of 279 and lower than NYC's death rate of 403.)
  • Vaccination Rate: 75.83 percent (Higher than Manhattan's vaccination rate of 73.34 percent and higher than NYC's vaccination rate of 61.83 percent.)

10023: Upper West Side/Lincoln Square

  • Population: 61,782
  • Cases: 3,649 — One out of every 16 residents
  • Deaths: 101 — One out of every 611 residents
  • Vaccinated: 49,201 vaccinated, 46,238 fully vaccinated
  • Case Rate: 5,906 per 100,000 (Lower than Manhattan's case rate of 8,878 and lower than NYC's case rate of 11,947)
  • Death Rate: 163 per 100,000 (Lower than Manhattan's death rate of 279 and lower than NYC's death rate of 403.)
  • Vaccination Rate: 79.64 percent (Higher than Manhattan's vaccination rate of 73.34 percent and higher than NYC's vaccination rate of 61.83 percent.)

The 10025 ZIP code, which routinely registered the highest coronavirus rates of the UWS ZIP codes, had both the highest case rate and death rate in the neighborhood.

With the spread of the delta variant, virus rates are ticking back up throughout the city, including on the Upper West Side, where all three of the ZIP codes are between 1.86 and 2.36 percent positivity over the past week.

However, the rates on the UWS are a good bit lower than the current 3.59 citywide weekly average.
