To enliven the surrounding blocks, boost community spirit, support local artists, and make the most of an empty storefront, Art on the Corner is organizing an exhibition of paintings, photographs, and other works that celebrate our neighborhood.
The display will be presented in the windows of 2780 Broadway, formerly the Bank Street Bookstore, from June 5 through September 6. The vacant retail space wraps around the northeast corner of Broadway and 107th Street on the Upper West Side, where the Bloomingdale District meets Manhattan Valley.
Art on the Corner was organized by a group of neighbors, all residents of a co-op at 245 West 107th Street, which encompasses the retail space. Inspired by Art on the Ave NYC’s pop-up art installation in storefronts along Columbus Avenue last fall, Art on the Corner seeks to make equally good use of the co-op’s vacancy.

The group is inviting local artists to submit works that tell a story, expressing the spirit and character of the community. After a challenging year during which many of us have not ventured far from home, Art on the Corner aims to depict the many-faceted neighborhood that has sheltered us. The submissions should reflect the area’s history, culture, and diversity and its residents’ wide-ranging experience. Artists who offer their works for sale will retain 100 percent of any proceeds.
