More Than 1K Free Meals Will Be Given Out On The UWS For Christmas

Neighborhood organization Goddard Riverside will distribute more than 1,000 free meals to anyone that wants one on the Upper West Side.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — More than 1,000 free meals will be given out on the Upper West Side on Christmas Day.

Goddard Riverside, an UWS-based community organization that provides educational, cultural, and recreational programs for New Yorkers, will be hosting the day of giving that kicks off Sunday at 8 a.m.

Here's the schedule for the day that will take place at 593 Columbus Ave. (West 88th Street).

  • 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Meal prep and assembly.
  • 10:30 a.m. to noon: Volunteers pick up meals on-site and deliver them to nearby residences.
  • Noon to 3 p.m.: Community members can come pick up their own meals on-site.

Anybody is welcome to take part and pick up a meal.

Goddard Riverside has been giving out free meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 30 years. The volunteer-driven event is mainly supported by donations from the Upper West Side community.

The organization focuses its work on children and older adult programs, promoting mental health wellness, fighting homelessness, family programs, and supporting housing for all.
