Muggers Slash Victim In Upper West Side Robbery: NYPD

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A group of muggers violently attacked a pedestrian on an Upper West Side street during the early morning hours Thursday, police said.

A harrowing assault and robbery took place near 96th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, leaving the pedestrian with minor injuries before being rushed to a local hospital by medics around 1:30 a.m., according to authorities.

At around 1:24 a.m., police reported that the victim was approached by four strangers. Without provocation, one of the culprits slashed the victim in the face with an unknown object and stole money and prescription medication, authorities said.

Police said the culprits ultimately fled the scene, running eastbound on West 96th Street.

As of late Thursday morning, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed that two persons of interest have been taken into police custody for questioning, while the other two remain at large.

No description of the attackers has been provided, but the investigation is ongoing.
