UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A taste of Italy is coming to an Upper West Side street.

Nestled on Amsterdam Avenue between 82nd and 83rd Street, CASASALVO, the brainchild of celebrated Italian chef Salvo Lo Castro, is welcoming customers of all dispositions to their grand opening on May 13.

Taking over a storefront at 473 Amsterdam Ave., the cafe and market offers a variety of coffee, cappuccino and espresso beverages, all priced at $2.50 per cup.

At CASASALVO, the espresso bar serves up classic espresso alongside specialty flavors like pistachio, hazelnut and truffle. Their coffee is a blend of Italian Dokito beans, a leading espresso producer located near Rome.

Patrons can also enjoy freshly baked Italian croissants, known as cornetti, to complement their coffee at small bistro tables outside, a company spokesperson said.

The market is owned by Italian chef Salvo Lo Castro, a personal chef with over 28 years of experience running private dining and catering services. New Yorkers will also be able to stock up on specialty items from an array of affordable Italian pantry staples.

The shelves will be adorned with everything from award-winning De Nigris vinegar, organic pasta, Italian beverages, fresh cheese, meat and hand-crafted butter and yogurts.

"I am very excited to make gourmet coffee and specialty foods accessible to everyone in New York City, where customers can experience the true essence of Italian flavors," Lo Castro said. "CASASALVO will be home for those who want to connect over the values of good food, eating well, and living these moments with joy, and I look forward to sharing my passion for Mediterranean cuisine and culture with our customers."

Through CASASALVO, Chef Lo Castro said he hopes to extend his mission of making Italian cuisine accessible to all, from espresso delights to essential groceries.

CASASALVO is located at 473 Amsterdam Avenue, just across from Song'E Napule Pizzeria & Trattoria. Operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Sunday through Monday.
