In an interview with the West Side Rag last month, Brewer cited schools, transportation and NYCHA repairs as some of the most pressing issues Upper West Side residents are currently facing. She also voiced support for a program similar to the B-HEARD program in Harlem, which sees social workers working with police officers during mental health crisis calls.

"The problem with crime statistics being down slightly is that mental health issues don’t seem to register on the crime reports," Brewer told the outlet. "Somebody who is wandering around…sometimes standing in front of a business, sometimes screaming profanities…those aren’t going to register and that’s a problem," she said.
