UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A small French-style sandwich and pastry shop on the Upper West Side is gearing up to say farewell to the neighborhood.

Le Petit Parisien, known for its authentic take on French-style cafe goods and nestled on Amsterdam Avenue between West 67th and 68th Streets, will be closing its doors a little over one year after opening.

Employees informed Patch on Monday that the cafe's last day at its Amsterdam Avenue location will be Sunday.

First reported by ILovetheUpperWestSide.com, the decision to close stemmed from an increase in rent prices. "We are relocating Le Petit Parisien due to reasons beyond our control," a sign outside the establishment reads.

Le Petit Parisien operates three additional locations throughout the city—in Harlem, the Upper East Side, and the East Village. An employee has confirmed that only the Upper West Side location will be closing.

The company intends to reopen its fourth shop at a new site, though the employee was unable to specify its exact location.

Le Petit Parisien is known for its array of sandwiches, all made on homemade baguettes.

“Baguette is our key element and took us a while to figure out,” the eatery’s website states. “The flour we use comes from France and is baked with the most traditional techniques in order to give the right amount of crisp.”

Most of their sandwiches are priced between $12 and $16, though there are some exceptions. For instance, The Louis XIV, featuring foie gras and fig confit, costs $35, while the Les Versailles, with Creme Fraiche, smoked salmon, and royal Siberian caviar, is priced at $32.50.

They also offer a selection of sweets and breakfast pastries, including classic French croissants, ham and cheese croissants, pain au raisin and a variety of muffin flavors.
