UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man used a knife, and a hateful slur, in a failed attempt to rob an Upper West Side straphanger Easter Sunday, police said.

As a 48-year-old man rode an Uptown-bound 2 train rolling into the 96 Street subway station, a stranger wearing a yellow jacket walked up to him, police said.

The stranger pulled out a knife and demanded money from the man, officials said, and used an anti-ethnic slur towards the man, who a police spokesperson said was Hispanic.
