UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Spring is upon us, and around 15,000 brightly-colored flowers are coming to an Upper West Side festival for the community to enjoy.

The West Side Community Garden will host its 2023 Tulip Festival beginning on April 15 and continuing through early May.

The garden is located in the middle of the block between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues with entrances on both West 89th and 90th streets.

“We know that the Tulip Festival is a family favorite every year,” said Judith Robinson, president of the board of directors of the West Side Community Garden, in a news release. “And this year we’re even more excited because of the sheer scope and diversity of the tulips we planted. We’re expecting an extra special display for the community to enjoy.”

Along with the 13,000 tulips, there will be over 2,000 bulbs of other spring flowers, including crocuses, hyacinths and daffodils.

The garden will be free and open to the public every day from early morning until dusk.

For those looking to learn more about the tulips and the West Side Community Garden itself, there will be Information Days on the weekends of April 15-16 and April 22-23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The garden was started by locals in the 1970s on what was a trash-strewn empty lot and is entirely run and cared for by its volunteer members.
