UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Found: lost bird in the big city.

A pair of Upper West Siders found themselves working together to help corral a lost pet bird over the weekend, according to multiple reports.

Local Matt Schick first tried to catch the bird when he first noticed the green and yellow common parakeet, or budgerigar, outside of his window at West 87th Street and Amsterdam Avenue on Sunday evening.

He told local news blog, I Love The Upper West Side, who first reported the story, that he spent over an hour trying to catch the lost pet by luring it through his apartment window.

“I realized this has to be a pet so I opened the window and started playing parakeet sound effects through my phone to try and lure it in,” Schick told the New York Post Tuesday.

When the bird departed from its perch about 30 minutes into his rescue attempt, Schick ran outside and tried to follow it as it flew from tree to tree, according to reports.

“I went outside and looked around. My doorman thought I was crazy, I was jumping around outside. I saw it fly from tree to tree, and ultimately it few into another building across the street, like smacking into a window,” Schick told the Post.

He went to bed assuming the worst, but when he searched the words "NYC Parakeet" on the internet Monday morning, he discovered the best sort of New York City news: a neighbor had finished the good deed he attempted to start.

"My friend found this bird on the street in the UWS," read a post he found on Reddit, "it is very friendly. Looking for its owner or a new home as we both have cats that would eat him up!"

Another Upper West Sider named Anna had found the bird in distress on the ground, the Post wrote, and helped give it food and water as it recovered.

The two new friends are now on a mission to bring this bird back to its home.

“To me, I was really excited that the power of the Internet immediately made this connection within 12 hours I saw that this bird had been located and somebody had posted that they had found it, like that was just a crazy, strange Small World internet in New York City moment,” Schick told the New York Post.
