UPPER WEST SIDE, NY - Chef Eyal Shani is no stranger to the New York City culinary scene, as he's been bringing creative twists on Israeli and Mediterranean cuisine to the Big Apple through eateries like HaSalon, Port Sa’id and Michelin-rated Shmoné since 2018.

Now, he’s slated to add another restaurant to his New York roster next month with the opening of Malka on the Upper West Side.

Located at the former site of Shani’s North Miznon restaurant at 161 West 72nd St., Malka will feature a fully kosher menu that will be refreshed regularly. The location will be Malka's second, with the first having opened in Tel Aviv in 2018.

The New York site is set to open Nov. 16, a spokesperson told Patch.

“You eat kosher food without feeling it’s kosher, it’s a very happy food,” Shani told GrandLife. “So we’re planning to open that this year. But I try to be in the moment. I’m not planning concepts. I’m planning on doing great places by being honest to the time and location.”

A sample menu from Malka’s sister site in Tel Aviv features bruschetta with avocado vandies, potato salad, charred asparagus and horseradish aioli, charcoal-roasted beet Carpaccio and lamb Kebab with a herb focaccia and field vegetables.

Malka will be closed on Friday nights through Saturday during the Jewish Sabbath, though Saturday night reservations will be made available during the winter when the sun sets earlier.

10 percent of all the location’s proceeds through November will be donated to humanitarian relief organizations in Israel, according to TimeOut.
