The patriarch of the grocery chain just penned a commitment at a vacant commercial space on Broadway, formerly home to Bed Bath & Beyond.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A Wegmans grocery store may be coming to the Upper West Side, according to reports.

The Rochester, NY-based grocer reportedly signed a "long-term lease" at 1932 Broadway, between West 64th and 65th streets, according to the New York Post.

“The space at 1932 Broadway has been leased by Danny Wegman and is a personal investment," a Wegmans rep told the storied tabloid. "At this time, we have no immediate plans to open a store at that location.”

The rep told The Post that the acquisition of this location was a longtime aspiration for Wegmans, but the space wasn't available until after they had committed to their Astor Place location, which opened to huge fanfare this past fall.

“At this time, we are continuing to learn from our Astor Place store and will use those learnings moving forward,” Wegmans told The Post.

All corporate hedging aside, there seem to be some clear signs that an Upper West Wegmans is in the future.

According to The Post, who spoke with the building's owner, Glenwood Management, the lease is guaranteed by Wegmans, and the company already has the keys and has been planning out their renovations for months.

“It will be a significant operation and include sushi," Gary Jacob of Glenwood Management told The Post's longtime real estate columnist, Lois Weiss. "We are very excited for our building and the Upper West Side neighborhood.”

The nearly 60,000-foot-space was formerly home to a Bed Bath & Beyond until it closed in late 2023.

Wegmans opened their first New York City grocery superstore inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2019.
