UWS Baseball Field Gets Major Repairs: Reopening This Spring

A popular baseball field in Riverside Park used for Little League games is getting a variety of improvements, including a new fence.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A popular baseball field in Riverside Park on the Upper West Side will reopen this spring after getting some major repairs.

In the park near West 72nd Street, the field has long been used by neighborhood Little League teams.

The Riverside Park Conservancy recently hired a contractor to install brand new clay on the field.

Here are the other improvements to look out for:

  • Removed the old backstop fence
  • Repainted the entire backstop frame
  • Installed brand new fence fabric

The field will reopen in the spring after the newly seeded outfield grass has had a chance to take root.

"As a result of this partnership, this heavily used ballfield will be better than ever," said Dan Gardonick, the president and CEO of the Riverside Park Conservancy, in a letter to the community. "We look forward to many great seasons of play!"

Riverside Park Conservancy noted that the improvements and repairs were made possible in partnership with the NYC Parks Department, with support from private donors.
