UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A stretch of Open Streets recommenced on the Upper West Side this past weekend, and will host events and activities for the rest of the spring and summer.

The Columbus Amsterdam Business Improvement District reopened its Open Streets programming this weekend on Amsterdam Avenue from 106th to 110th streets.

The programming will run for the next two Sundays on Amsterdam, before the BID also expands its Open Streets section to Columbus Avenue between 107th and 110th streets.

The activities for the next two weekends include dominos, hula-hoops, chalk, chess, ping pong, tree stewardship, an art gallery at the Anibal Aviles Playground on West 108th Street, and a StreetLab obstacle course.

The hours will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A Columbia University Lion Dance Performance took place on Sunday to kick off the reopening of the UWS Open Streets section.

For those who might have forgotten during the winter months or are new to New York City, Open Streets are a collection of blocks that become restricted to cars and instead prioritize pedestrians, bikers, outdoor dining and activities.

Streets around the city have been transformed over the past three years thanks to the program — even amid complaints that leaders were neglecting open streets in neighborhoods of color. And despite complaints from car owners who say they pose an inconvenience, polling has shown strong support for the program.

The Columbus Amsterdam Business Improvement District Open Streets are subject for weather, and aren't typically set up if there's rain.

You can find out more on the BID's website.
