UPDATE: UWS School Reopens After Lockdown, Police Confirm

Authorities placed Louis D. Brandeis High School on lockdown Thursday morning after receiving a report of an individual with a firearm.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, police received a 911 call regarding an unidentified male locked inside a bathroom with a firearm at Louis D. Brandeis High School on the Upper West Side.

The school was locked down, officials told Patch, and remained so for several hours.

As of 11 a.m., emergency responders were still on scene.

“They’re still there, sweeping the school,” an NYPD spokesperson told Patch on Thursday morning. “They’ve been there for some time.”

Louis D. Brandeis High School is located at 145 West 84th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Columbus Avenue.

A message left for a Department of Education spokesperson has not been returned.

UPDATE: "Emergency Services Unit did an official canvass of the entire school," an NYPD spokesperson told Patch. No firearm was located, and as of 12:15 p.m., the school is no longer on lockdown.
