UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Late-night travelers trying to get back home on the Upper West Side might have some detours this weekend.

MTA officials announced that planned maintenance work on the 1 line will result in service cuts this weekend.

Transit officials announced that all downtown 1 trains will bypass the 86th Street station, situated at the intersection of West 86th Street and Broadway, and the 79th Street station, located at the intersection of West 79th Street and Broadway, through early Monday.

The service changes will be in effect from Friday at 9:45 p.m. until Monday at 5:00 a.m.

For commuters who typically use 86th Street and 79th Street stations, MTA officials recommend taking the 1 train to 72nd Street and transferring to an uptown 1 or 2 train, or taking the 1 or 2 train to 96th Street and transferring to a downtown 1.

The change in service is meant to give MTA time to perform necessary structural maintenance projects within the two stations.

MTA officials did not specify the details of the structural maintenance required at the two stations.
