Get Spooked With Halloween 'Body Snatchers' Screening At Film Forum

WEST VILLAGE, NY — If you're not in the mood for trick or treating, then buy yourself a treat and get spooked at one of the city's top independent cinemas.

On Halloween night, Film Forum will be hosting a screening of the classic scary flick, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," along with an introduction by a longtime film professor.

The 1956 black & white, sci-fi noir-style horror flick has been called one of the top films of the 1950's, successfully combining political allegory with frights and spooks all with a tiny budget of around $420,000.

Some call it the quintessential horror "B-picture" movie.

Foster Hirsch, a film professor who has been on the faculty at Brooklyn College since 1967, will provide an introduction. Hirsch has penned over a dozen books on American movies, including many on film noir.

His most recent book, "Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties," was published by Alfred A. Knopf this year.

The screening of Film Forum's month-long festival called "50 from the '50s."

As part of the festival — and celebrating Halloween — the longtime independent movie house has planned a handful of other frightful 1950s classics, including "Sweet Smell of Success" on Saturday, "Creature From The Black Lagoon" in 3-D and multiple screenings, "The Thing From Another World" and giant ant thriller "THEM!" both also on Halloween and Nov. 4.
