Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. On Tuesday, the Raleigh City Council unanimously approved a proposed expansion of where and when people can openly drink alcohol while walking in the downtown area and during what hours. According to WRAL News, "The expansion of the Sip n’ Stroll program will add more of the Warehouse District and extend over to Wye Hill on the edge of Boylan Heights. The expansion adds about 12 blocks north and west of Nash Square, including Raleigh Union Station. The city will also extend the hours people can walk around with a drink in hand β€” starting an hour earlier each day at 10 a.m. It will go on seven days per week through 10 p.m.
The changes are set to take effect on Aug. 15." (WRAL News)
  2. A scam alert has been issued by the Beter Business Bureau and is asking people to please be aware and on the look for both fake events and events that don't live up to the hype advertised. According to WTVD-TV, "Nick Hill with the BBB of Eastern NC says, 'See if you can find social media for the event, find a working website and the most important thing is to see if they have working contact information.' Another tip is to Google the event to see what others are saying about past experiences and if there were any problems. Also, make sure the website is secure with the lock symbol in the address bar. Always pay with a credit card, that way you can dispute the charges if the event doesn't happen." (WTVD-TV)
  3. Inspired by a photo of Busta Rhymes gently kissing his son on the forehead as he drops him off at college, artist Dare Coulter is working on her latest masterpiece on the back side of Irregardless, a restaurant in Raleigh. Her mural is a tribute to Black fatherhood. Check it out! (WRAL News)
