  1. A woman has been arrested in connection to a fatal head-on car crash that occurred last month. Junior Felipe Olivo Lacan, 19, died as a result of the collision, which happened on Aug. 26 on Bethabara Park Boulevard. At the accident scene, investigators were uncertain why a westbound vehicle crossed the center line to collide with the eastbound vehicle that carried Lacan as a passenger. On Tuesday, Sep. 26, 33-year-old Janet Jacobo turned herself in and was charged with driving while impaired and felony hit-and-run. (My Fox 8)
  2. As municipal elections draw closer, there is another candidate for the city's South Ward council seat for voters to consider. Adrian Smith, 35, is running against incumbent council member John Larson. Smith has been a resident of Winston-Salem for many years and co-owns the Village Fabric Shop with his wife in Reynolda Village. He also started a company called Robert Rust Foods and is a partner with Equilibrium Impact Ventures. Smith is running for the city council on a platform of sustainability for the city's finances and environment, as well as social sustainability. (Triad City Beat)
  3. Winston-Salem nonprofit Hogar del Inmigrante has been working to support local Latino and Hispanic communities. So far, the organization has served over 3,000 families to get settled in the Triad area. Executive Director Connie Velez Trejo said that the organization began in 2020 when she began offering to translate for parents at the school where she worked. She is aiming to fill the needs of recent immigrants in the area, including by offering programs for seniors and children recovering from sexual abuse. (My Fox 8)
