  1. The recently approved North Carolina state budget includes $35 million in funding for Winston-Salem to boost the local economy. These funds have been earmarked for infrastructure projects for the area between Coliseum Drive and Reynolds Boulevard, which hosts a multitude of sporting events throughout the year. Winston-Salem City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem D.D. Adams said that the investment would help improve parking, pedestrian access, and traffic in the area around the Coliseum and Fairgrounds. 2. Winston-Salem has a shortage of affordable housing, and city leaders are working to address the issue. The city is on pace to meet a goal set last year to add 750 housing units each year for the next decade. Interim City Manager Patrice Toney pointed to over 200 units recently approved in the Northeast Ward and explained that the goal is for families to pay no more than 30 percent of their income on housing. The Northeast Ward should see more affordable housing in the near future as the city works to approve an additional 180 units in the area. (My Fox 8)
  3. The Winston-Salem Police Department reported that a man has pled guilty in connection to a traffic collision that occurred in June. The incident occurred on Jun. 6 when Trevor Ivester, 33, was driving on Skylark Road and crossed the center line, hitting a Jeep head-on. The Jeep overturned and caught fire, causing serious injuries to the driver. Ivester pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Sep. 27 to two charges and has been sentenced to serve 23-40 months in prison.
