Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

  1. On April 1, The Lorain County Democratic Women’s Club (LCDW) will host “Reclaiming Our American Visions and Values” at the Spitzer Convention Center. According to a press release, there will be a day-long series of panel discussions about the deeper issues facing women today. The event is being held in collaboration with Democrats 101 and State Representative Joe Miller (District 53). It will take place from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Lorain County Community College’s (LCCC’s) Spitzer Conference Center at 1005 North Abbe Road in Elyria. Individual tickets for the event are $60 each and can be purchased by clicking here. (actblue.com)
  2. The Reel Recovery Ohio Chapter has a few openings for its 2023 Men's Cancer Fly Fishing Retreat which will be held on June 20, 21, 22 at Rockwell Spring Trout Club. Reel Recovery is a national non-profit organization that conducts fly-fishing retreats for men recovering from all forms of cancer. Combining expert fly-fishing instruction with directed “courageous conversations,” the organization offers a unique experience for men with cancer — a time to share their stories, learn a new skill, form friendships and gain renewed hope as they confront the challenges of their recovery. Retreats are conducted over a two-and-a-half day period at a fly-fishing facility/lodge with onsite or nearby fishing access. All meals, lodging and fly-fishing equipment are provided at no cost to the participants. Retreats are led by professional facilitators and expert fly-fishing instructors. For information to be a participant, volunteer and contribute to the retreat contact Marcel & M. J. Mylen Ohio Reel Recovery Coordinators at 216-496-2094 or email [email protected], or [email protected]. (Reel Recovery)
  3. The Avon on the Lake Garden Club will be meeting at the Avon lake Library for the April 6 meeting at 11:30 a.m. for the general meeting. The meeting will open to the public at 1 p.m. for the program brought by the Master Gardners of our club. There will be a panel to provide insight on the master gardener journey and talk about what they enjoy most about it. There will be a Q & A to follow. The public is welcome. (Avon Lake Garden Club).

From my notebook:

  • FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc.: "Meet Ranger. Ranger is the sweetest, middle-aged hound that we pulled from a shelter when he was diagnosed with heart worm and in kidney failure. He’s now heart worm negative and his kidney numbers have improved." (FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc. via Facebook)
  • Avon Lake Historical Society: "Can anyone guess where this intersection is/was?" (Avon Lake Historical Society via Facebook)
  • Avon Lake Public Library: "Family story times will be on break after next week and resume on June 12th. During this time, ALPL still has an exciting variety of activities for kids of all ages and we'll be making preparations for the summer!" (Avon Lake Public Library via Facebook)
