🏟️ Game On! + Gucci Grabs Twinsburg Twins For Fashion Week + Haslam Hitter Charged

Cleveland Daily: Catch up quickly on what you need to know today.

What's great about a Cleveland team reaching the playoffs, whether we're playing baseball, basketball or football, is how the people in this city come together to revel and root, root, root for the home team. I believe there are few cities where hearts rise and fall as strongly as they do here in Cleveland when our teams reach the big game.

Let's hope the Guardians keep rising and the games get bigger.

1) The Cleveland Guardians will play the Tampa Bay Rays in the wildcard series Friday at Progressive Field, with the first pitch at 12:07 p.m. Since 1994 when the American League Central Division was formed, Cleveland has won 11 division titles β€” including four of the last seven. The team has had five seasons of 90 wins or more, including this season's 92 victories. The Guardians this season fielded so many rookies β€” 17 β€” that they are younger than many minor league teams. Looking to bone up on the players and the fun facts? Cleveland.com reporter Joe Noga pulls it all together just in time for playoff baseball in Cleveland.

2) Twins from Twinsburg were among 68 sets of twins invited to a twinning fashion show in Milan, Italy, to model some outrageous Gucci duds. Jake and Nate Bartel, 18, had the time of their lives. They practiced their runway walks in their hotel room after arriving in Italy. They were discovered at the Twins Day festival when a photographer asked them to pose. They've never modeled before. They dressed in matching red sequined outfits with white shoes. "We didn't really fit into the theme. Everyone was kind of tame. Like, and then we were just over here looking like disco balls," they said about their outfits. The kicker: Gucci's show was called "Twinsburg."

3) Cleveland's 2,500 old-fashioned, coin-gobbling parking meters may finally be replaced now that the city is seeking proposals for a modern, "smart" system that could accept credit cards or app payments. Cleveland will accept proposals through Nov. 3. The parking system could change by summer 2023. Whether the cost to park rises remains to be seen. β€œModernizing our city’s on-street parking system will make the public’s experience much more customer friendly and convenient,” said Mayor Justin Bibb.

4) A drunken lawyer from Rocky River is accused of tossing a water bottle that struck Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam as he was leaving the field when the Jets tied the game. Jeffrey Miller, 51, a managing partner at Brennan, Manna & Diamond in Cleveland, was accused of disorderly conduct by intoxication, a misdemeanor. He's due in municipal court Oct. 20. Miller tried to get away from security guards as he left the stadium but was detained by police. Miller was featured this year in Crain's Cleveland Business Notables In Law, but he's no longer listed on the law firm's website. He's also been barred forever from Browns games.

5) Belinda Klein says she's not a wine expert β€” just someone who loves wine. She and Jay Klein will open Wyne Tasting Bar, 6800 Detroit Ave. in Cleveland, next week. β€œWe’re called Wyne Tasting Bar and I really want people to embrace the opportunity to taste a variety of wines freely, in their own time, and without pressure from staff,” Belinda told the intrepid Douglas Trattner, reporting for Cleveland Scene. The business will feature state-of-the-art wine pouring machines with 32 different bottles of reds and whites. "This place is for people like me. Sometimes you just want to taste it, enjoy it and drink it. Leave the rest to the experts who were hired," Belinda said.
