I don't know about you, but I grilled some 🌭 and put out the Ballpark Mustard for Monday night's Guardians-Yankees Game 5 only to be thwarted by rain. Game on for Tuesday, though. What else do you need to know this morning?

  • Only Cleveland and Rome have hosted all six Jesus sculptures in the Matthew 25 Collection.
  • Strongsville dentist Douglas Smith didn't pay his income taxes for 30 years. Now he's on trial.
  • Wild Winter Lights starts on Nov. 15 at the zoo.

Oh yeah, Mary J. Blige is gonna rock the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Wednesday. And the teaser dropped Monday for HBO Max's "A Christmas Story Christmas." Check it out.

Waiting Is The Hardest Part

1) Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day, we want to go outside and play ... ball! Alas, the rain did not go away on Monday and Game 5 of the American League Division Series was postponed to Tuesday afternoon at 4:07 p.m. The decision was made at about 9:30 p.m. after a two-and-a-half hour rain delay. The pitching matchup for Game 5 will change. The Yankees are now putting Nestor Cortes on the mound, the Game 2 starter, instead of Jameson Taillon. The Guardians could bring their ace Shane Bieber back to the field instead of Aaron Civale. Manager Terry Francona has yet to decide.

2) Cleveland is the only city in the United States and the second city in the world to host the entire full Matthew 25 Sculpture Collection — six bronze figures of Jesus Christ in various poses that reflect his journey and teachings. The first arrived here just before Christmas last year: Homeless Jesus, a life-sized sculpture of Jesus asleep on a park bench, at St. Malachi Parish. The other five, each out in the open for the public, are now here at Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital, Bridge CLE, Refugee Response at Urban Community School, Malachi House and Old Stone Church. Rome is the only other city to host all of the sculptures. The sculptor is Timothy Schmaltz.

3) Strongsville dentist Douglas Smith, who claims to be a "sovereign citizen" and exempt from federal income taxes he hasn't paid in 30 years, went on trial Monday. Federal prosecutors charged him with four counts of attempted tax evasion. Smith is defending himself, which so far isn't going well at all. He was barely able to make an opening statement because prosecutors objected 11 times as the 68-year-old man spoke. Before trial, a judge found Smith in contempt of court three times for frivolous motions and talking over the judge. To avoid paying his taxes, prosecutors claim Smith tried to hide his money in a trust and through purchases of gold bars and coins.

4) It feels like winter outside already, so let's talk about Wild Winter Lights at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The displays, featuring millions and millions of lights, open Nov. 15. You'll see Candyland, Starry Skies, Enchanted Forest, Future for Wildlife Trail and, of course, Santa's Workshop. Word is Santa will be there for photos, too. You'll also see costumed characters, model trains, ice carvers, carousel rides and a big light show. The special event ends Dec. 30. There will also be "drive-through dates." If you're a zoo member, tickets will cost $19. Non-members will pay $22. Tickets are also available in four packs at a discount.

5) Cleveland native Dan Watt is making his debut as a film director and producer with "Everybody Dance," a documentary that showcases the journeys of six kids with different disabilities as they prepare for a dance recital. The film was released for streaming on Friday, Oct. 7 and can be found on VUDU, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The film has a 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. "These kids changed my life and outlook towards disabilities and if in some way this movie can do the same for someone else, any support and awareness we can bring to it will be a win for so many," Watt told Patch reporter Michelle Rotuno-Johnson.
