We All Scream When Steven Kwan Scoops Ice Cream

1) If you love Cleveland Guardians outfielder and rookie sensation Steven Kwan, you may want to stop by Mason's Creamery in Ohio City to see the star ballplayer scoop some ice cream between 7 and 8 p.m. Thursday. The ice-cream shop also will be serving Korean corn dogs with Bertman's Ballpark Mustard. After a season like this one and Kwan's stellar play (he went 9 for 21 against the Yankees), we expect the crowds to be massive.

Also, the Guardians posted a big "thank you" to the fans on Facebook after their season came to an end.

2) The helicopters hovering over I-271 last week weren't secret government choppers spying on us. They were carrying FirstEnergy contractors conducting inspections and repairs atop the 120-foot power transmission poles. A static wire runs from pole to pole to protect the system from lightning strikes. The helicopters were hovering overhead to pick up and drop off the workers. The aerial work will continue for another month.

3) Four Cleveland police officers disciplined for a brawl that took place two years ago outside their union hall bar plan to appeal their suspensions. The argument and fight was a three-on-one affair and took place in November 2020 during a party. One of the officers kicked his fellow cop in the head and received a 30-day unpaid suspension, the harshest of the penalties. At one point, the child of the officer who was attacked by the other three watched the brawl and burst into tears, according to testimony. Cleveland.com recently obtained the disciplinary files.

4) What do a great Browns quarterback, a gold medalist Olympian pole vaulter, a renowned high school volleyball coach and a baseball broadcaster all have in common? A sports hall of fame induction. Browns QB Bernie Kosar, Olympian Katie Nageotte, Elyria volleyball coach Carol Russo and Cleveland Guardians baseball broadcaster Tom Hamilton were inducted into the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

5) Here's a fun bit of local history for you β€” onetime "king of porn" Reuben Sturman grew up on Clarendon Street in Cleveland Heights in the early 20th century and checked in on his mama frequently. Especially when he needed to prevent her from seeing his name in the newspapers. Sturman, also called the Walt Disney of Porn, got his start in business selling comic books, but he made his fortune in peep shows and hardcore porn. The couple who bought Sturman's childhood home had no idea he or his mother, Esther, had lived there until neighbors clued them in on the neighborhood lore. β€œApparently, she had beautiful gardens. She had many roses,” Beth Clough said. β€œSome of her roses were still alive when we moved in. … I am a gardener also and have maintained the gardening tradition of the house.”
