Ohio Governor Race Remains Tight: Poll

A new poll by Baldwin Wallace University's Community Research Institute shows Republican Mike DeWine leads Democrat Richard Cordray.

The race for governor in Ohio remains tight, according to a new poll released Tuesday by Baldwin Wallace University's Community Research Institute. Republican Mike DeWine leads Democrat Richard Cordray 41.8 percent to 37 percent.

But the race for U.S. Senate, Sen. Sherrod Brown's lead over Republican challenger Congressman Jim Renacci is growing. Brown leads 49.2 percent to 31.8 percent. - a 17 point lead over the GOP candidate.

The poll of more than 1,000 likely voters was conducted by Community Research Institute from Sept. 5-15, News 5 reported. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percent.

The poll also asked voters if they approve or disapprove of the job President Trump and Gov. John Kasich are doing. Kasich’s job approval rating was 49.8 percent compared to Trump’s 42.9 percent, while the disapproval rating for Trump was 51.6 percent and Kasich was at 32.1 percent.
