Here are the top three stories in Oklahoma City today:

  1. Multiple Muslim congregations in the Oklahoma City area will gather at Scissortail Park to celebrate the "United Eid Festival" on Jun. 30, marking the end of the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. The festival, organized by Masood Abdul-Haqq and Dr. Jihan Abdul-Haqq, aims to bring together Muslims from various mosques and foster a sense of unity. The event will feature music, games, traditional food dishes, and an opportunity for non-Muslims to learn more about Islam. (Oklahoman.com)
  2. Oklahoma Human Services is currently accepting online applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Summer Cooling and Low Income Home Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). LIHEAP provides assistance for winter heating and summer cooling, while LIHWAP offers temporary funding to help low-income households with water and wastewater bills. Eligible households can pre-authorize their LIHEAP application if they are already receiving assistance through Oklahoma Human Services, while others can apply online. (Oklahoma.gov)
  3. Curbside Apparel, a screen-printing shop operated by The Homeless Alliance in Oklahoma City, is offering employment opportunities to individuals transitioning out of homelessness. The shop's staff, consisting of members from the homeless community, prints graphics on a wide range of shirts, serving clients such as the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and Downtown OKC. This initiative is part of The Homeless Alliance's efforts to provide job opportunities and skill development for the homeless community through various programs like Curbside Chronicle and Curbside Flowers. • The Oklahoma City Fire Department reminds everyone that purchasing, selling, or using fireworks is prohibited within the city limits. However, there are several upcoming outdoor firework displays in the OKC Metro area to enjoy! (Oklahoma City Fire Department via Facebook)
  • To ensure that emergency lines remain available for genuine emergencies, the Oklahoma City Police Department urges residents not to call 911 for reporting fireworks. Instead, they provide alternative channels such as a Firework Hotline, online reporting, email, an app, and text messaging to report fireworks incidents, with the city promising to address and follow up on the received complaints. • Don't let June end without experiencing the Midtown Cool Down in Downtown OKC! Enjoy drink specials, happy hour promotions, and daily events in the district all summer long, running until August. (Downtown OKC Partnership via Facebook)
