Hillsboro Company Keeps Jobs, Loses Status as Headquarters Shifted Away

Portland Business Journal reports change in status for the company that once was Triquint Semiconductor.

When Hillsboro-based Semiconductor - manufacturer of chips for iPhones among other products - announced two years ago that they were merging with North Carolina-based RF Micro Devices, they stressed that it was a merger; that they were not being taken over.

To drive home the point, the newly formed company, Qorvo, announced they would have two corporate headquarters - one in Greenboro, North Carolina and the other in Hillsboro.

That has all changed.

As The Portland Business Journal first reported, during an earnings call on Tuesday, Qorvo said that they have restructured its leadership and Greenboro is the sole headquarters.

"We wanted to simplify how we do business with customers and suppliers through a single headquarters location," the paper quotes a company spokesman as saying.

"Hillsboro is and will continue to be an important location for Qorvo and is the center of excellence for our gallium arsenide products used in smartphones, mobile devices, cellular networks and defense systems."

Qorvo continues to employ around 1,000 people in Hillsboro.
