Hillsboro Janitorial Company Barred From Ever Receiving Public Contracts

Company also forced to pay another $144,000 to workers who had been underpaid.

A Hillsboro-based janitorial company will never be able to receive a public works contract again, according to a settlement reached with the state's Bureau of Labor Industries. It is only the second time that BOLI has secured such a ban.

As part of the settlement, Cornerstone Janitorial Services also has to pay $144,000 to 46 employees who were underpaid on a variety of projects. The company has already paid nearly $200,000 to workers not paid on 16 taxpayer funded healthcare and education projects in cities including Portland and Wilsonville.

"Our agency is committed to holding businesses accountable so that workers receive every dollar they’ve earned," said Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian. "It’s especially important that taxpayer-funded projects fulfill the basic promise of fair wages for a fair day’s work.

"This settlement is a win for vulnerable workers and other businesses that deserve a level playing field."
