Intel CEO Makes Oval Office Appearance Days After Opposing Trump Executive Order

The appearance was to announce Intel will invest $& billion in Arizona computer chip factory.

Days after Intel became one of the top tech companies in the United States to sign on to legal papers opposing President Trump's executive order temporarily banning residents of seven predominantly Muslim countries from visiting the U.S., the company's CEO was in the Oval Office expressing support for Trump.

"It's really in support of the tax and regulatory policies that we see the administration pushing forward." Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said when asked why he chose the Oval Office as the site of what was effectively a business announcement.

Krzanich had just announced that Intel would make a $7 billion investment in advanced chip factory in Chandler, Ariz. The completion of the factory, Krzanich said, would create the advanced semi-conductor chips.

"Intel is very proud of the fact that a majority of our manufacturing is here in the US, and the majority of or research and development is here in the US, while over 80 percent of what we sell is sold outside of the US," he said.

Krzanich said that the factory will employ about 3,000 high-tech jobs and more than 10,000 people in the Arizona area supporting the factory.

"This is the future of computing," Krzanich said, holding up what he referred to as a "wafer" that will be made at the factory.

The factory had been scheduled to open yeas ago but was put on the sideline when chip sales slid.

Calling the investment a "great thing for Arizona," Trump said "We're very happy and I can tell you the people of Arizona are very happy.
